The LoL Honor system is a way to mechanically reward players for good behavior—or rather, an absence of bad behavior. Generally, the best way to improve your Honor standing is to not be penalized, as it will grow naturally with time. Check out our guide on How to Raise your Honor Level in LoL if you’d like to get to the max level as quickly as possible.
For players who do get to the top of the Honor ladder, here’s what they can expect:
Three Honors Skins
Reaching Honor 5 by the end of the season will get you all skins in the exclusive Honor skins line, called Three Honors. These include:
Honor 5 Tokens and Shop
When players reach Honor level 5, they will be awarded with a Honor 5 Capsule which will contain a Honor 5 Token. These tokens can then be exchanged for the following skins:
Once you have unlocked one of these skins through reaching Honor 5 in a previous season, you can start exchanging the tokens for chromas of these skins.
Some seasons, Riot will grant two tokens instead of one, for seemingly no reason in particular.
Honor 5 Capsule Rewards
On top of the aforementioned Honor 5 Token, players will also find other rewards in their Honor 5 Capsule:
- Five Key Fragments
- 960 BE or higher value Champion Shard
- Twitch Champion Permanent
- Warwick Champion Permanent
- Random Emote or Ward Permanent
Targeted Ally Pings
Only Honor 5 players can target allies’ portraits, ultimates, summoner spells and items with their pings.
Honor 5 Recall
High Honor players get special recalls in games after which they received Honor. When you get to level 5, this recall effect is permanent for the rest of the season.
Other High Honor Rewards
Although not specific to Honor level 5, there are other benefits in-game that scale with your Honor level. High honor level players have the following perks:
- They can ping and emote more often
- They are eligible for ranked rewards such as Victorious skins
- They get random bursts of Battlepass XP
- They can honor more players per match

Conclusion
The Honor system in League of Legends is designed to actively punish bad behavior and reward positive behavior with keys, chests, champions, skins, and more. The implementation could be a little better, and tons of players are left wanting for more when it comes to Honor rewards. However, the system makes the chat a little cleaner by requiring a minimum Honor level before you can speak in champion select or post-game.
Although players are given the right to use these chats to start with, it’s a good design choice to have it be something that can be taken away if you’re reported for toxic behavior. For now, the system does its intended purpose of punishing malicious players, while handing out some relatively good-looking goodies to well-behaved players.
