Totemic Maokai reimagines the Twisted Treant as a ceremonial forest guardian covered in carved masks, wooden fetishes, and green-orange war paint. The wood grain is more pronounced than base Maokai, and the totem faces give him a fiercer, shrine-like look.
In-game, the VFX shift to cool green and blue tones across his kit, which makes his spells feel ritualistic rather than chaotic. The sapling is a miniature totem with jagged leaves, standing out clearly from the base sapling that looks more like a twig. There are no new animations or voice lines, so the skin plays like base Maokai but with a strong tribal theme. There are no direct pop-culture nods and it isn’t tied to a seasonal event; it’s a classic legacy cosmetic.
Release date: February 16, 2011. In Patch 7.9, it received a new splash art alongside Maokai’s broader update, with in-game VFX adjusted to fit the theme.
Totemic Maokai is a standalone thematic and isn’t part of a larger skinline with shared lore. It focuses on ritual totems and woodland worship without direct links to other skins.
It’s semi-rare because it’s legacy and not purchasable. It’s not tied to any event so you can’t buy it anymore; otherwise collectors look for accounts with it unlocked or rely on loot. If you want an account that already owns it, check here: Buy LoL Skin Accounts.
Yes. It can drop from Hextech and Masterwork chests, or show up via Mystery Gifts, and you can unlock it with a shard using Orange Essence. For ready-made accounts, see LoL Accounts, Buy LoL Accounts.
If you like a budget legacy pick with a clear theme, Totemic is a solid choice. For more flair, many players prefer Meowkai for its playful pets and festive VFX, or Astronaut Maokai for its clean sci‑fi effects and fun saplings. You can compare them all here: All Maokai Skins.
Legacy skins are still obtainable thanks to our high end account store which features League of Legends accounts with the rarest skins at the best prices.
